A Bioforum photo exhibition at the heart of UPM operations in Uruguay

2 June 2016

For twenty five years UPM has worked together with Uruguay in building a relationship that gives real joy and benefit to both and plays a concrete role in making the community and UPM stronger.

The Natural Commitment photo exhibition at the Bioforum showroom at the Biofore House in Helsinki, Finland celebrates this special relationship and showcases UPM Foundation’s achievements in Uruguay during the past 10 years. The exhibition captures moments in the everyday life of the Uruguayan people and the country’s fascinating natural landscapes.

The Uruguayan photographer, Andrés Bartet, has a distinctive, warm style. His interest in the stories behind the pictures has led him to specialize in portraits. The photos capture both the moment and the story behind it in a most compassionate way.

The exhibition was opened on June 1st by Pablo Sader, the Uruguay Ambassador to Finland, and Heikki Vappula, Executive Vice President, UPM Biorefining.  Magdalena Ibáñez, Manager of the UPM Foundation, was present to share her experiences on how UPM’s and Uruguay’s commitment to work together has boosted the well-being of the local communities.

The speakers also chose their favorite piece in the exhibition.

“I chose this picture not only because of esthetics but because of the story. The elder daughter of the family had not the possibility to go to secondary school. Now her little brother is in secondary school thanks to one of the projects of the UPM Foundation. And this story is not rare – this happens all the time,” Ibáñez said.

The Natural Commitment photo exhibition displays photographs from UPM’s plantation operations and community engagement activities of the UPM Foundation. In addition, the exhibition offers glimpses into the Uruguayan countryside, its people, and their passionate relationship with football.
