Big in Japan! UPM’s Biofore message well received in Tokyo

The 18th Eco Pro – Exhibition for Environment and Energy, one of the largest international exhibitions focusing on environment in Japan, was held on 8 – 10 December in Tokyo. This year UPM took part for the first time. The exhibition was held at Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center). Nearly 167,000 visitors attended the three-day event.

The “Eco-Products” exhibition was held for the first time in 1999 to promote sustainable products. The exhibition themes, and its name, has broadened from products to services, environmental management and social contribution along with the ever growing importance of environmental issues.

UPM’s main message at the event was “The Finnish forest is full of opportunities”. The stand showcased UPM’s main products in Japan: printing paper, copy paper, label materials and timber. The focus was also on UPM’s Biofore strategy, sustainable forest management, UPM innovations and responsibility practices. UPM experts and business area representatives were at hand to talk about sustainability issues and give product specific information to the customers and the public.

UPM was highlighted by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and exhibition organisers

The audience showed great interest in UPM’s products, high-tech innovations and responsibility practices. Of the innovations especially UPM BioVerno, wood-based renewable diesel and UPM’s Biofore concept car interested many guests.

UNIDO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, selected UPM as one of the most innovative and sustainable companies at the exhibition and made a guided tour at the stand with embassy officials from 35 different developing countries. Eight stands out of the 705 were chosen to be presented. The ambassadors were impressed by UPM’s sustainable forest management and eco-designed products. The exhibition organisers also chose UPM one of the six stands to be showcased in the guided tours organized during the exhibition.

The exhibition guests had the chance to experience the Finnish forest as the UPM Forest Life web page was introduced to the audience via touch screens.
